Past Exhibitions:

SPACE JAM @ Union Gallery, 359 Broadway, NY NY
November 13 – December 12, 2009

Union Gallery is pleased to present “Space Jam,”a group exhibition themed on 2-dimensional works that venture into 3-dimensional space, where the imagined world becomes the audiences’ physical reality. Each artist establishes an explorative environment using traditionally flat and dimensionless media. Space Jam is an orchestrated jamming of handcrafted microcosms into one all-encompassing space.
The exhibition showcases artwork by: Yo Fukui, Yasemin Kackar- Demirel, Dina Kelberman, Andrea Loefke, Scott Meyers, Devin Powers, Alan Resnick and Ryan Syrell.
These artists explore what happens when drawings, paintings, prints, and collage begin to break away from the walls and become installations. The general restrictions of framing works and limiting them to wall-space inhibits the possibilities these mediums are capable of. These handcrafted worlds encourage individual experiences and interpretations. All pieces are sitespecific installations that challenge the artists’ conventions of two-dimensional work, spanning from minimalist drawing to audience interactive pieces. The installations simulate the sensation of stepping into a drawing, allowing viewers to experience the dimensionality that artists strive to imitate in physically flat works. Curated by Aimee Lusty.
